Last year, we Ukrainians could not even imagine what it would be like to celebrate Christmas Eve sitting in cold basements, with candles without electricity, behind a window with a rattling generator, with the sounds of an air raid siren and cowering at the approaching sounds of an attacking kamikaze drone. But today, exactly 10 months after the start of the war in Ukraine, we already know a lot from our own experience!

At first glance, it may seem that the war ruined everything that could be ruined, including the Christmas holiday. And yes, I agree that the war really messed up a lot. Many things besides the joy of Christmas. Because war cannot spoil the Joy of Christmas, it has no power.

Did you know about it?

This joy does not depend on a good mood, on gifts, on the festive table. The joy of Christmas depends on the person – the born Jesus Christ!

By the way, it was at night time, during a complete blackout, that the Angel of the Lord appeared to the shepherds, and the Glory of the Lord shone upon them. The words of the Angel “do not be afraid” are also understandable to us when we are afraid.

But it is precisely in such moments, when it is dark, when it is scary, when hopelessness and darkness have covered the earth, that the Savior of the world appears. And we sincerely believe in the Victory of Light over darkness, because the One who is Light was born!
